Flood Victims
For the Municipality of Murrysville’s residents who have trash items that were damaged due to the severe weather on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, items may be taken to the Pleasant Valley Landfill, June 22 through 26, 2009, by special permit only.

To obtain a permit, please contact Cherie Weber at the Municipality of Murrysville at 724-327-2100, Ext. 130.

Only residents who experienced flood damage will be permitted to take items to the landfill, with a limit of one pick-up truck of items per household. No commercial contractors or trucks will be admitted to the landfill. No tires, appliances containing Freon, no items containing oil or gas, no hazardous waste items will be accepted.

Corrugated Cardboard Recycling

To dispose of corrugated cardboard, Murrysville residents may dispose of boxes, which must be broken down, in the new cardboard recycling container. The container is located at the Veterans Field parking lot near the Public Works facility on Sardis Road. The Municipality thanks Allied Waste for providing this free service to Murrysville.

Penn DOT Updates

Penn DOT CONSTRUCTION UPDATES

Uniontown, PA – PennDOT District 12 would like to inform motorists of the following information in the Murrysville area.

Motorists should always slow down when approaching work zones and pay attention for changing traffic patterns.

UNIONTOWN (June 11) – PennDOT District 12 would like to inform area motorists that a section of Routes 1063 (Fennelltown Road) in Salem Township is being detoured from June 22 at 7:00 am through July 3 at 3:00 pm so that a 24 inch gas line can be repaired. The section of Fennelltown Road that will be closed is between the intersections of Otts Road and Deerfield Drive.

A posted detour will be in place that uses Route 819 and route 22.

Motorists are reminded to drive with caution through any work zone.

WEEKLY UPDATE

Westmoreland County Maintenance Manager, Tim Cook, today announced the following tentative work plan for the week of May 11, 2009. All maintenance activities are conducted on a weather-permitting basis. Motorists should drive with caution throughout all work areas and be alert for signed work zones requiring the usage of headlights.

PENNDOT has a 24-hour toll free number for residents to call to report any road maintenance concerns. This number can also be utilized to report locations of dead deer on state highways. The number is 1-800-FIX ROAD (1-800-349-7623). Please visit us on the web at www.penndot12.com

Crack sealing will take place on SR 380 and SR 356 in Washington, Murrysville and Allegheny Townships.

Side dozing will take place on SR 819 and SR 981 in Bell Township.

Shoulder cutting will take place on SR’s 1008, 0259, and 1011 in Ligonier and on SR 217 in Derry.

Crack Sealing will take place on SR 982 and SR 217 in Derry.

Inlet Repair will take place on SR 982 in Mt. Pleasant Township.

Flushing will take place on SR’s 982 and 2027 in Unity Township.

Please note extended traffic delays could occur in these areas. Fines double in work zone areas.

Headlights must be on whenever there is a need for windshield wipers.

Please be cautious of children and school buses.

School Road South Bridge

We've been informed that PennDOT is ready to commence the long-awaited replacement of the School Road South Bridge.
The work will be performed by Plum Contracting, Inc..

They intend to begin as early as March 17; The upstream half of the bridge will be replaced first while maintaining traffic on the other side through the work zone.

The work for this $1.26 million project should take about 4 months.

This $43,877,812.40 project includes the reconstruction of four miles of Route 22 from just east of the Cozy Inn cutoff in Murrysville to the Route 66 interchange in Delmont. It includes construction of four lanes with eighteen foot medians and a two foot concrete median barrier with openings to allow for left turn lanes at intersections. Also included is the installation of a new traffic signal and upgrade of four existing signals. The contractor is Golden Triangle Construction Company, Inc. from Imperial, PA.
